The Oxford dictionary tells us that God is a person or thing that is worshipped.
So that raises the question "Is God a person or thing?"
Let's look at the meaning for person and thing...
person - a human being; living, has emotions and feelings.
thing - an object; that which can be seen, touched, thought about, etc.
To cut to the chase...
God can be viewed in two ways;
1. A living being that has emotions and feelings. (usually portrayed as guy in Heaven)
2. A thing that is visible. (usually portrayed as a statue)
God is also known to be all-knowing, and only a living and breathing being can be capable of that!
An object does not think for itself; let alone live and breathe...
that must mean God is a living and breathing God!
He is alive!
A statue is a material thing (made of gold, iron, stone, etc.)
It has no emotions wat-so-ever!
God loves us alot, so He has emotions!
And a God who has emotions must be a person.
And how do I know that?
I know that as He clearly says in Genesis 1:26,
"...let us make human beings in our image and likeness..." (NIV)
And I guaruntee you if God was a thing, then we would of never of been made,
and if it was at all possible, then we too would be things...
Therefor, God is a being in Heaven that is worthy of being worshipped!!!
So now, we have an idea of who God is, but what is He like?
Is He an angry God holding a lightning bolt, who loves to punish and condemn us?
Or is He a loving God, who provides all things and loves to bless us?
Let's have a good look at His word...
"For Thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes, and I have walked in Thy truth." Psalm 26:3 (NKJV)
"Yet the LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me and my prayer unto the God of my life. " Psalm 42:8 (NKJV)
"Because Thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee." Psalm 63:3 (NKJV)
Psalm 26:3, Psalm 42:8 and Psalm 63:3 tells us He is of a loving nature.
Since He is of a loving nature, He loves us!
He acts a lot out of love,
Two examples would be:
1. Noah being told by God to build an arch and put animals in there; along with his family.
2. Moses and the Hebrews being taken out of Egypt, where they were treated like slaves!
